Just because we don't want you in our phones doesn't mean were hiding anything, it just means we want our privacy. LOVE YOU MOM!
When you are a teenager there are so many things that you are going through and so many changes. We have new responsibilities we're not use to and also learning who we are on top of that. So yes, when we have some free time to let go and forget the moment we get on YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, etc. Now I'm not saying that is an excuse for us to be on Social media 24/7, but I'm saying to not get on our case about it, but cut us some slack because we are dealing with things too.
I'm sure back then y'all had things to use as stress relief, ours just sometimes happen to be social media. Plus, parents are just as addicted to social media as we are. There is no way you guys can deny that. Y'all do the same things that we do, it's just the fact that were teenagers that makes it look bad. Now that's tea.
When teenagers say anything back to our mom or dad it's automatically ''You're being disrespectful.'' ''who are you talking too?'' 9 times out of 10 we are just trying to EXPLAIN our point of view. For me, It's never disrespectful, it's just a matter of me trying to get my point across in a respectful way.
Also, if you wanna try me, studies show that whenever teenagers speak up for themselves with their parents (Respectfully of course), these teens tend to stick up for themselves in more important situations. Don't you see, when parents allow their children to have a conversation, it helps them in their life overall. So, I do encourage parents to allow their teenagers to have a conversation with them without automatically accusing them of being disrespectful.
Just as parents want privacy, we do too. That doesn't mean that we are hiding or keeping anything from you. We are just wanting our own things to ourselves just as you do. Such as wanting our doors closed, keeping our phones with us, and more. It's just a sense of comfort that we have with our things.
I've heard people say that when teens have our much-needed privacy, it helps to build our independence. When we handle minor situations on our own, that will slowly teach us to handle bigger ones in the future. Disclaimer, if a parent does feel like something is going on and you need to check do so, but please talk to us about it first.
4.Don't Be Too Strict
When parents are too strict with their teenagers they are giving us no room to make mistakes. Life is about making mistakes and learning from them. In my opinion, when you don't allow us to learn from our mistakes as teens we'll do those things in our adult life which will lead to consequences we can't fix. It's better to let us make mistakes then instead of hurting our future later.
Another disclaimer: If it is obviously something stupid that can ruin our lives forever, then that is when it is okay to step and do what parents do. Other than that, once we learn from the mistakes we made in the past, we will know in the future the damage that it can do for us now.
